They require you to buy $60 worth of product for them to exercise your brand up. Exercise you notwithstanding tip the artist? I was under the impression that each sale they brand is part of their committee.

No I do non tip them, however I buy at least 1 item and frequently more. Make up sales is generally a wage/salary plus commission occupation.

If I were to use one of them, I approximate I would if they did a great job or they did the whole matter without waiting on other customers. One of my friends got a makeover and it took a terrible amount of time equally she rung up other sales.

I wouldn't become 1, besides worried about getting some strange infection, saw a news story on information technology years agone about a woman that got pink eye or a stye. No thanks.

Ooh, I think I have an reply for this!

I was wondering the same thing and tried to tip afterward getting my make-up done a few years ago at a section store MAC make-upward counter but was told they couldn't accept tips.

  • Conner K.

The articulate answer is No. Please do not appoint in unnecessary tipping. Its bad plenty that every fast food counter service place now has a tip jar. What the fuck for? As much as I like the employees at Chipotle I'thousand not paying an extra $ for a burrito.

Pete, tipping is a personal thing. I don't feel pressured into tipping only because a tip jar is in that location, I but say thanks and have a nifty day. I don't requite it a 2d thought.

I didn't tip because i was told I had to make a buy. I would take tipped depending how well she did my make up. These department stores MAC counters brand their own rules which is highly irritating!

  • Courtney C.

I'thousand pretty certain they work on commission so ownership makeup is their "tip"

  • Chigrl.dc C.

That would be a joke. I am tired of having to tip everybody and their mama.

I never fifty-fifty idea  to tip the make-up artist at any counter, because they work on comission.  I've merely had my make-up completely done once.  I was a sucker and bought almost every product they used.

Periodically I will sign upwards for a brand up service in advance when I am looking to modify things up. I have as well bought well-nigh everything, simply I felt like it was fourth dimension to practice so. I likewise gently direct them as I don't desire to look like a Vegas showgirl or a hooker. I take had too many of those experiences in the past, especially when I was younger. It also seems like most of them are request what  colors you like for lips and eyes rather than forging ahead with their own ideas because of a new seasonal palette that they have to sell.

Personally, I think y'all should tip. Buying products from the make up counter is like the "price" of getting your make upward done - it'south not free. Similar to the price of getting a pedicure. And don't you tip the person who worked hard to make your feet wait pretty? And then you lot should practise the same with the person who spends time applying brand up. You shouldn't think of information technology equally "Oh, they are getting their tip from the products I am purchasing," and it hasn't been absolutely confirmed that they are getting commission, just rather think of information technology as, "This person labored for a considerable amount of fourth dimension and provided me a service." And don't we tip others in the service industry? Yes. So why disregard these guys and gals?

And from my experience, they are allowed to take tips since I have tipped my brand up artists in the past

  • Crystal N.

So MAC has a $threescore minimum to exercise brand up now?  When did they start that?

I call back it is a judgement call and depends... Business wise you don't desire a dozen demanding kids showing upward xx minutes before prom demanding makeovers and not buying product y'know? Specially if you lot take other customers waiting and ready.

That said, I've asked for assistance when looking for a wait or specific production and always received gracious service regardless of toll. Who doesn't love MAC?

I just recently made my own eyeshadow pallet.  De-potting the old ones is unexpectedly fun.

  • Crystal N.

I remember when you tin can just go up to a MAC counter enquire what's new and they would sit you down and give you lot a make over, no questions asked. Back then the proper etiquette was to purchase two or three items but a dollar corporeality was never given. I guess a agglomeration of cheap bastards had to ruin it for everybody else! This is why we can't accept nice things! :(

  • Señorita Rodrigue Z.

Hell no their "tip" is the committee they make off selling u the product!!!

Jules, yeah- samples are what tell me if I similar the product, if it works and will buy it.
If I can't try it on before, might too shop in the drugstore.

  • Conner K.

Volition the next Yelp tipping thread be "Should I tip the motorcar salesman"?

  • Chigrl.dc C.

If you hire a make upwardly creative person for your wedding or event, that's one thing I guess. Honestly, I don't even understand that concept. Yous pay them a shit load of money and on top of that you have to tip them as well. I would rather tip my delivery medico for a healthy delivery, than irrelevant people in my life that expect for a handout.

  • Chigrl.dc C.

Let me see... Tip someone employed at Mac that makes $ten per hour + commission vs. some other profession that works solely on tips. My ii cents is that these companies need to pay their employees and end expecting the client to pay their employee salaries.. It's becoming a bit much if yous take coin to throw around or non. What's next.. I have to tip the cashier and bagger at the grocery shop. Why don't people tip at McDonalds, but its expected to tip everywhere else; Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Jimmy Johns, etc.

  • Conner K.

I'd much rather tip a grocery store bagger than a commissioned makeup counter clerk. The baggers work a hell of a lot harder and for much less coin. Actually they do receive tips in some countries but oddly plenty not in good quondam 'Murica. Bluntly they deserve to.

  • Señorita Rodrigue Z.

Screw that..... just cause I shop at Yard.A.C n brand a decent living doesnt mean they demand to be tipped. MY tip is their commission. Thats why theyre commissioned..... to sell u product. If they succeed, then 1000.A.C is "tipping" them..... and Im tipping M.A.C by buying their product

  • Chigrl.dc C.

If I have money or not to buy MAC makeup does not mean that I have to give it abroad to someone that does not deserve it.

  • Chigrl.dc C.

That's where you lot are wrong. It is not the right thing to do.

Make up counter employees, MAC or otherwise, are existence paid at To the lowest degree min wage

Waitresses and hair stylists are generally paid less, waitresses can legally be paid much less.

I never thought to tip someone at a makeup counter only if I hired a makeup creative person, I probably would.

Make upwards counter employees are salespeople. You don't tip the guy who sold you your mattress, car, or Tv right? If you desire to, become ahead.

  • Crystal N.

[ if you don't wana tip urmakeup creative person a few bucks for applying ur makeup and doing a good job thats incorrect! ]

No, it'south non.  If people desire to tip the MAC girl, fine but to say information technology's wrong if y'all don't is...incorrect!  :p

Jo, I get what you're saying simply take a question here, (When someone tipped him he did a lil extra if noone tipped he did exactly what they paid for.)

People usually tip at the end of a service, when the cutting is washed and styled, when the check is given, etc. Then unless information technology'southward a repeat client how would he know?

Jo, then you didn't tip that mattress guy then?

    Why?

Because it was an expensive purchase?

Some may feel that after getting their make-upwardly washed, purchasing $sixty of brand-upwardly is an expensive buy.

Information technology'south a matter of opinion.  I like threads where people share opinions, but it really irks me when people effort to push their opinion as fact and assert others are incorrect.

Hmm... then he used better products, so he took profit out of the owners pocket so he could get paid more? This is just like the bartender that gives some gratis shots for a bigger tip. If the owner doesn't leave it to the employee's discretion then it's cutting into the bottom line.

Oh, I see it's okay to steal if an employee feels they're not getting paid enough? Equally a small concern possessor, I can tell you it's tough going in this economic system, I'yard glad I don't own a tip driven business organisation. I'd be mad if my employee'southward gave abroad the store. I'g certain your blood brother wasn't the only i doing this.

  • Crystal N.

[@angela when uve done a job where u rely on tips even though u get paid minimum wage ud empathize or anyone else]

This is probably why everyone likes to the bust the balls of these Millenials.  Back in the 90s when I worked at Fields, I was making $six.75 an hour (no commission).  Customers didn't tip, flow.  And I assure you they didn't give a damn if I was coming dwelling house to a dinner of Kool-Aid and Rice-A-Roni every solar day for a week straight or if I had to scrounge effectually my apartment looking for quarters so I would have enough coin to become back and forth to work.  Yet we never sat around demanding that customers give us tips because our chore didn't pay us enough.  Nosotros ate our Rice-A-Roni like the soldiers we were!  :p

A little suffering is good for the soul kiddies!
